Give Her a Golf Set

While you’re drooling over the latest set of Taylor Made 17 irons, why not consider getting a new golf set for that special woman in your life? It shouldn’t strike you as an odd choice. Women have been avid golfers at least as far back as the 1500′s. Whether you buy her that new set of clubs so that she can play with her friends or join you on your favorite course makes little difference. If she loves the game, or you think it might be something she has an interest in, it’s a gift that will rarely go wrong.

Golf, as a sport, has been around since the days of ancient Rome when the ball which was made of leather was teed off a mound of wet sand. One of the first and most famous female golfer was Mary, Queen of Scots. Legend has it that she is responsible for the term “caddie”. She called her helpers cadets and it seems to have stuck.

Although some see the popularity of golf for women as a recent phenomenon, there have been associations and tournaments for women golfers since the late 1800′s. In fact, the world-famous St. Andrews course in Scotland was the home of the first golf club for women in 1867. Shortly thereafter, in 1895, the first women’s golf tournament, the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, was held at the Meadow Brook Club in Hempstead, New York.

Professional women athletes have always had to fight for respect and women golfers have not been any different. Today’s superstars like Anna Rawson, Brittany Lincicime and Kristy McPherson owe a lot to those early women of golf who faced ridicule and discrimination without allowing it to prevent them from pursuing the game they loved.

So, find out which golf set she has her heart set on and maybe throw in a video on golf swing tips. Be a hero to someone special with a golf gift that will make her happy and earn lots of points for you.
